The Busia County Government has responded to a viral video showing injured students from Kolanya Boys lying on the floor at Kocholia Hospital following a road accident.
The students were involved in the accident on Tuesday night and were rushed to the facility in Teso North for medical attention.
However, due to limited emergency response resources, some were seen lying on the cold floor while nurses attended to them.
The video, which sparked public outrage, put a spotlight on the state of healthcare in Busia County.
Busia Deputy Governor Arthur Odera acknowledged the facility’s challenges in handling such emergencies but claimed that the video was politically motivated.
“That video did not show the boys who were seated on benches, and I understand the distress it caused parents who saw their children in such a situation,” stated Odera.
Teso North Health Officer Catherine Erone admitted that the hospital struggles with handling emergency cases but assured that efforts are being made to address the issue.
